Municipal Accommodation Tax Program: Update By-law, develop project criteria, and execute program

Status Update

On Monday, June 20, 2022, the Town Council approved a Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) By-law (No. 5435-22). This tax (2%) is applied only to accommodation establishments with five or more rooms and is valid for bookings made on or after July 1, 2022.

On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, the Town Council approved an updated Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) By-law (No. 5540-23). This updated tax (3%) applies to accommodation establishments purchased for a period of 28 consecutive days or less, whether in a hotel, motel, motor hotel, lodge, inn, bed and breakfast, vacation rental, dwelling unit or any place where accommodation is provided. The updated tax is valid for bookings made on or after January 1, 2024.

The development of definitions of project criteria is currently outstanding.
